What your child will learn

In small classes of up to 8, this half term focuses on creativity, craftsmanship and developing more advanced ceramic techniques. Children will design and create a collection of handmade Christmas ceramics, building their confidence as makers while learning how to transform ideas into finished pieces that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Week 1 – Tuesday 3rd November

Create a collection of Christmas decorations for the tree, exploring a range of hand-building techniques, surface textures and decorative details.

Week 2 – Tuesday 10th November

Design and construct a Christmas wall tea light holder, developing an understanding of form, structure and functionality while creating a decorative ceramic piece.

Week 3 – Tuesday 17th November

Create a sculptural candle holder inspired by a donkey or another Christmas animal, using a combination of hand-building techniques to develop shape, character and detail.

Week 4 – Tuesday 24th November

Learn how to use underglazes with increasing precision, applying colour, pattern and decorative detail to Christmas decorations and wall tea light holders.

Week 5 – Tuesday 1st December

Complete and refine the decoration of candle holders and any remaining pieces, bringing together the ceramic skills, techniques and creative decisions developed throughout the half term.
